Summer Swim Suits

tankinis

If you are like most, then you love the summer but are not really thrilled with the fact that you wear so much less during those months. That thought seems to hit home a little harder because that also means trying on a one or two piece swimsuit. Trying to find perfect swim suits for your body shape can be frustrating, as you may feel that none of them look good at all. However, there are a few considerations that you should be aware of before heading off to the mall dressing rooms.

For those of you who have that hourglass shape it can take some extra time trying to find one that fits those curves just right. This can also be considered a full figured body and normally, this type can pretty much wear any suit, including the sexy bikini.

If you have an apple shaped body, meaning larger in the middle, then you can try one of the popular tankinis that have a tank top style and either a skirt bottom or bottoms that are cut like boy shorts. These swim suits are also a good choice for women who are a little on the shy side and do not want to show their stomach because the tank top covers the middle well and the skirt can help if you have larger thighs.

At one time for the plus size women, you were limited to one or two styles of swimwear swimsuits and they probably did not fit very well. Now, however, the designers have finally answered the call from plus sized woman and there are many different womens swimsuits that are available for the larger gal. If you are a little insecure about going into a store to try on bathing suits, then you can always purchase swimwear online, which is a very convenient way to shop.

While black is a slimming color it is not the best choice in a plus size bathing suits. Using dark colors or black on your problem areas is fine, but you need to show off your other areas by using colors or prints. Plus size swim suits are not the big, dowdy looking things from years gone by. Today they are available in a vast number of styles and colors, so take your time and try on several until you find the one that is perfect for you.

An Overview Of One Piece Swimsuits

bikini swimwear

Many people are under the impression that something like the bikini swimwear is the only sexy style of bathing suit available. However, try asking some men about that and many will say that women wearing one piece swimsuits are much more alluring. Why? Because it leaves something to the imagination; gives them something to think about as a little mysterious, if you will. So, do not think you have to have a sexy bikini in order to get attention because men love a little mystery as well.

There are several ways that a one piece swimsuit can be designed to give optimum exposure and yet still leave something to the imagination. For example, some have a maillot that has certain cut out areas (or peek-a-boo as they are also known) that helps to break up the straight line and accentuates feminine curves.

If you are looking for a sexy yet contemporary look, then try to find a suit that has asymmetrical slashes that show skin between some of them and others that use bold, vibrant colors, such as fuchsia, yellow and orange. Some one piece swimsuits may even appear to show more skin than bikini swimwear. As well, you can always find something a little more modest if you are not quite ready to show all that skin.

Of course, you can’t forget that contemporary yet classy look, with something like an animal print one piece swimsuit. All of these wild prints, from spotted like a Dalmatian to striped like a zebra and everything else in between, are always in style. If stylish yet subtle is your style, then consider suits with some type of small styling on the straps, such as rings or even small ruffles. There are many different styles available and with a little extra work on your part you should be able to find one that flatters your particular body shape.

The experts have given us a few tips on what would look good on particular body shape as far as one piece swimsuits are concerned. If you have more of a boyish figure, with shoulders, waist and hips that are all close to the same size, then be sure to look for suits that have ruffles along the bust and hips to give the impression of more curves. If you are a little top heavy, then try to find a suit that has wide straps that will hold you up. For someone with a more pear shaped figure, try to be sure that the bottom appears smaller than the top of the suit to draw attention away from the shape.

The Popularity Behind Bathing Suits

womens swimsuits

Going to the beach as a form of entertainment really gained popularity after the onset of railroad travel. While the ladies of the day knew that it was improper to have tanned skin, they still needed some type of womens swimsuits. Therefore, the bathing suits that became available resembled smocks and the women actually sewed weights into the hems of the garments so that they would not float up and reveal their skin.

The next step in the evolution of swimwear swimsuits saw creations that were more like full length gowns, usually made from cambric or muslin. The garments had long sleeves with thin cuffs and were worn over pants or “trowsers,” as they were called then. The ensemble also required a scarf, sandals and even gloves. It wasn’t until sometime later that women were allowed to show a little leg.

Although not greatly different, the mid 19th century brought bathing dresses that still covered most of a woman’s body. These bathing suits were worn over Turkish pants or long bloomers and were made of a heavy flannel fabric. That was a one piece swimsuit that was not only difficult to swim in but they were also a long way from the bikini swimwear or tankinis that we have today.

Wherever the water was shallow near the beach people would change in little houses on wheels, which were drawn out into deeper water by horses and hauled back to the shore when the water play was finished. At some of the larger resorts on the shore, where the most glamorous ladies of the day were, hundreds of these little change carts would be in the water at one time. Their broad wheels gave them the advantage of not getting stuck in the sand. In some areas the idea of wearing a little less, including shorter bloomers and skirts, was starting to be kicked around a little; but the implementation of those ideas would not come into play until the early 1900s, or more accurately 1910.

Those little bathing cabanas gave even the most modest of women a chance to spend a day at the beach in privacy. Upon arriving at the beach wearing layers of petticoats and dresses, the horse would haul the cabana out into the ocean where the ladies could then change into their bathing suits. There was a hood added later so that they could emerge from the water wearing their soaking wet swimsuits without being seen. After the ladies peeled off the wet suits, they could then change back into their many layers of petticoats and dresses.
