2009 Summer Fragrances for Women

The cold months have ceased. It's time to retire your winter clothing because summer has come. The beach beckons and the sun will be all bright and sunny in the coming days. The perfumista in you should not forget to switch your eau de parfum with eau de toilette fragrances. Heavy perfumes are definitely out.

Every summer, perfumeries come up with summer-inspired scents. Most of these are replica of the originals. And of course, there are the all-season light fragrances available all year round. Summer or not, these scents are up for grabs in your favorite beauty stores or discount perfume sellers online.

So what makes a perfect summer perfume? First, it has to be light; nothing offensive to the nose and neither cloyingly sweet nor overpowering.  Second, it has to be citrusy or aquatic inspired as these notes tell us that summer is indeed here.  And third, it has to have the properties that allow it to blend well with the intense heat of summer. It doesn't leave a sour trail because the scent, light as a feather, will dissipate into the air. Needless to say, you’ll still smell great despite the sweltering heat.

There are a multitude of summer fragrances for women available today. Some fragrance houses such as Calvin Klein release limited edition summer-inspired scents each year.  Other designer labels like YSL, Dolce&Gabbana and Burberry have their own summer perfume collection as well. Here are some of the all-time favorite summer fragrances from top designer labels.

Eternity Summer
This year's version of Eternity Summer is amazingly different from the original. It’s grassy with hints of crisp green apples that bring out an attractive mouthwatering freshness. It’s one of those scents that help you relax. It’s clean, crisp, fruity-floral with nuances of spice.

Burberry Summer
Burberry Summer is summer in England in a bottle. It’s soft, innocent and lightly sweet.  Expect fruits and flowers drenched in sparkling water. It is refreshing and truly feminine.

CK One SUMMER
CK One Summer 2009 is teeming with citron accords. You’ll get lemons, limes, apples as well as mint and cucumber. Some users tag this as a shared fragrance. Aren’t all CK perfumes shared fragrances?

Cool Water Woman Cool Summer
Davidoff’s Cool Water Woman Cool Summer takes you to paradise island. It’s sweet, tropical and certainly, a beach-worthy scent.

Light Blue Perfume
The essence of Sicilian summers transformed into a lovely summer fragrance. It’s light, breezy and overflowing with fruity-floral accords. Light Blue perfume is one of the best-selling summer perfumes ever created by perfumer Olivier Cresp.

Perfume Review: Light Blue Perfume for Women by Dolce & Gabbana

Light Blue Perfume for Women by Dolce & Gabbana is a colorful floral-fruity scent that captures the sun-kissed summer days and the glittering nights of the Italian coast.  The parade of citrus fruits meshes with sensual musky undertones bringing out a vibrant and sparkling summer breeze ambiance. This most desired perfume is oozing with zest.  The crisp apples, the bluebells, the Sicilian citron and dewy rose petals and lovely jasmine creates a certain subtle sweetness and once it hugs your skin, it develops into something stunning. And yes, it quietly teases the scent palates.

Light Blue epitomizes the feminine persona living in the modern era. It’s deep and aesthetically pleasing. It doesn’t overwhelm and is not a nausea-inducing scent. It’s more of an intimate fragrance. You need to be physically close to take pleasure in the scent.

Characterized by a blend so light, it’s perfect for spring and summer.  Sillage is demurely sweet. Longevity varies depending on your skin chemistry. It stays longer on some but dissipates after a few hours on others. Light Blue could pass as a shared fragrance especially to those who prefer scents that are borderline feminine and masculine.

According to one perfume connoisseur from Basenotes.com, “The Granny Smith apple note in the opening gives enough contrast with the cedar and bluebells to create a bit of olfactory surprise. The whole floral fruity top level is smooth and refreshing and very nice if not extremely sophisticated. It’s a feel good fragrance — vibrant and warm. The florals and bamboo of the middle continue with a smooth floral / green dominated by a simple jasmine: the simplicity of the accord is captivating and is completely in tune with the vibes of the opening. The base is more cedar and musk—quite recessive to my nose, but I think its scarcity is fully in tune with the theme of Light Blue. It is invigorating; it is the springtime and mountain lakes filled with butterflies frolicking in the meadows.”

The first Dolce & Gabbana fragrance was introduced in 1992. It was a men’s fragrance called, Dolce & Gabbana Cologne for Men.  Light Blue was launched in 2001 to target young women in the 25-40 age groups.  Like its highly successful fashion designs, the Dolce & Gabbana fragrance collection continues to flourish and create vivacious and impressive scents.
