Insider Tips When Doing Your Prom Dress Shopping

One of the most important events for teenagers is their high school prom. To them it equates to walking on the red carpet, modeling on a fashion runway or being at the Oscar's. Since a prom dress is the main "must have" for the girls, they normally start shopping around fairly early for the perfect one, which usually includes trying on countless prom gowns, checking every store in the mall and in the town and maybe even getting ideas from the internet before making their decision.

Be sure to keep your own personal style in mind when shopping for your prom dress and don't be swayed by anyone unless you actually think they are right. Of utmost importance is to make sure it fits properly. You may fall in love with a dress that is one size too small, yet buying a dress that doesn't fit is a bad decision, especially with regard to comfort. Black seems to be the color of choice for prom dresses but you are by no means limited to that one color. You are free to choose whatever color suits you best. There are many different designs and styles available, such as the long formal prom gowns or short prom dresses. You can pick and choose separates.

There are other ways that you can take a basic prom gown and turn it into something that is truly you. You can add stunning details that will make your dress stand out, such as adding a sash with a splash of print or an extra long scarf in a contrasting color that you can toss over both shoulders in a mock train style. As well, don't forget to consider your prom shoes, makeup, hairdo and jewelry.

Of course, the right accessories can turn your prom dress into something even more stunning. For instance, if you have chosen a long formal gown, then why not add an elegant pair of long gloves that match your dress. Or, if you have opted for a shorter dress in a bright color, such as apple red, then consider slipping on a pair of banana yellow gloves for a great fun and youthful effect. Other bright colors that work well together are yellow and watermelon, lime green with tangerine and raspberry with lemon yellow. The great thing about being a trend setter is watching everyone else copy your ideas!
