Guide To Graham Watches

George Graham was remembered as the “father of the chronograph”, he was also the brains behind inventions such as the dead beat cylinder escapement, the first wall clock chronograph and the mercury pendulum. Dedicated to the mechanical art, Graham is in high regard today as a great contemporary watch brand. The combination of Swiss production and a British brand result in what Graham refer to as “wrist machines”.

Graham watches are reworking and rethinking the core meaning of a mechanical sports watch. The designs are bold with hard military themes and are made to be noticed. Grahams appearance just over a couple of years ago has resulted in the creation of two of the most iconic watches to be produced in recent times. The Chronofighter was first on the scene.

GRAHAM CHRONOFIGHTER Founder and CEO, Eric Loth looked back to the 1st and 2nd World Wars. In particular the pilots of British RAF bombers who wore precision instruments similar on their wrists. For the bombs to be despatched accurately it was essential they were at precise and pre determined intervals. The giant chronographs they wore were set with massive trigger mechanisms so they could control them even with gloved hands.

The Graham Chronofighter features a large trigger point that in turn works the co-axial chrono pusher that is set in the watch crown. The watches chronograph can be reset to zero by using a pusher above the trigger.

With the Chronofighter Oversized Commando watch Graham has really pushed the boundary with the quality materials used by using carbon fibre, titanium and ceramic in the build. The key factor is not solely in the materials used but in the manner they are used, for example, the use of ceramic for the clasp is because of the wear this part sustains. Using titanium as the material for the case keeps the overall watch weight to a minimum. Forged carbon used for the bezel is used for its resilience and the use of steel in the trigger area is to maximise the strength in this area.

Graham Swordfish Grillo Alarm GMT
This watch has the first optical big date. The Swordfish design took the watch world by storm in 2005, this is the new model.

Whilst maintaining its dipping lugs, intricately built case and skillfully textured crowns, this new model sets itself apart with its single eye to magnify the date significantly, leaving more than enough space for the GMT function and the new alarm function.
